Held at Black Rock Country Club in Hingham, Molly had a beautiful outdoor ceremony. Her cocktail hour was held outside on the terrace overlooking the golf course.

Her bouquet featuredwhite Annabelle hydrangea, green hydrangea, mini calla lillies, freesia, laceflower and a collar of magnolia leaves. Cocktail centerpieces were bright green spider mums which tied into her reception centerpieces: individual vases of fluffy green hydrangea, tall bells of ireland, and white dahlias. Each vase was hidden in a cream bag and tied with a chocolate brown ribbon.

The ceremony site was decorated with large vases of white and green hydrangea, brown Leonidas roses, green mums, laceflower, dahlias and bells of ireland.

I'm going to the Prom. Am I supposed to get flowers for my date?

This is the biggest question that florists hear during prom season! So what's the answer? Yes, it is customary for boy to bring a corsage for his date. And ladies, it is also customary for the girl to have a bouttonierre for her date. Some couples chose to order the bouttonierre and corsage at the same time so that they will co-ordinate.

So, what do you need to know to order the her flowers? Wrist corsages are the most popular prom flowers for girls but you may want to ask her if she would like a wrist corsage, pin corsage or a small hand held nosegay of flowers . All of our corsages are custom designed to match her dress so you'll want to know the color of her dress and if it has any crystals, rhinestones or pearl accents so we can add these details to her corsage. Plan on ordering your corsage 3-4 days in advance for pick up on prom day. After pick up, you'll want to bring your flowers right home and pop them into the refrigerator until it's time to leave for prom, don't plan on leaving them in a hot car while you get a hair cut!

European Flower Company carries an array of distinctive wristlets for corsages including pink jeweled, black "ice" beaded wristlets, iridescent white beaded wristlets as well as silver and black solid bracelet wristlets. These new wristlets have a number of advantages over the white elastic bands that were used for decades. They are much more attractive and the girls can use the wristlet as a bracelet after prom, they are much more comfortable so the girls tend to wear their corsages for the entire prom rather than taking the corsage off and leaving it on the table and we can create a designer look to her ensemble by matching the flowers, wristlet and accessories to her gown. What do I need to know to order a bouttonierre? You'll want to know the color of his tux and the color/ flowers of the corsage he has ordered for you so that we can co-ordinate your look. If he's a guy who likes some bling, we can add some jeweled accents to his bouttonierre too!
Ordering 3-4 days minimum before prom is ideal. As you can imagine, florists get very busy during prom weeks so order early!

A friend's mother passed away this past weekend and it reminded me again that florists frequently make the prettiest pieces for the saddest events.

This sympathy arrangement was delivered to a service at the Mortimer Peck Funeral Home in Braintree. I think it's especially beautiful, with Sorbonne lilies, Rosita Vendela and Ocean Song roses, Bells of Ireland, liatris and laceflower. Altogether, a beautiful arrangement for a beautiful lady.

Rain instead of snow, daffodils peeking up through the ground and Easter is right around the corner. Spring is almost here, and I say "It's about time"!

Many flowers are called "spring flowers"but, to me, tulips are the ultimate spring flower. With their distinctive shape and bright colors, tulips work well for any occasion and in any home decor or design style.

Tulips originated in Persia and Turkey, although they are most often associated with Holland. In the language of flowers, tulips mean true love.

One of the only cut flowers that continue to grow after they are harvested, tulips will grow towards a light source. An easy to care for flower, tulips do not like flower food or additions to their water. Instead, these simple little charmers prefer clear, cold water and a cool spot in your home or office. To prolong their beauty, pop the tulip vase in your fridge overnight, tulips love cool temps and it will help to keep them perky. Recut the stems every other day and refill the vase with cool water.

Deceptive "Florist in Weymouth" Online Listing

While doing an online search, I recently came across a listing for a "Florist in Weymouth". Since the address was listed as right down the street from European Flower Company on Washington Street, I knew that there was no florist shop located at that address. I called the phone number listed and they answered the phone as "Flowershop". When I told them that I'd like to come in and visit the shop, the operator hemmed and hawed and finally admitted that they were not even located in the state of Massachusetts, let alone Weymouth. Why would someone do that?

The answer is money. These online order gatherers list themselves online as a local florist and show a local phone number and street address to deceive customers into ordering from them. They charge a "service fee" ranging from $10 to as much as $30, for the pleasure of taking your floral order. They then contact a local florist in Weymouth, without identifying themselves as an order gatherer, to have the order filled. They keep the "service fee" and send only a portion of the monies collected to the real florist.

Weymouth Holiday Stroll and Tree Lighting

The annual stroll and tree lighting will be held on Sunday December 2, 2007. At 3pm, "The Santa Clause" movie will be shown in the auditorium of the Marie Chapman Middle School. After the movie, at approximately 4:30 pm, the holiday stroll will begin outside the auditorium entrance for the stroll to the Christmas Tree at Town Hall.

December 12 is Poinsettia Day

Holiday decorations would not be complete without a least one pointsettia plant, the much beloved symbol of Christmas. Well known for their large, bright leaves, poinsettias are the best selling flowering plant in the U.S.,

Poinsettias were brought to the U.S. from Mexico in the 1820's by the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Joel Roberts Poinsett. Although red is the most popular color, there are over 100 varieties of poinsettias available today. Colors range from bright red to pink, mauve, white and variagated.

Poinsettias are not poisonous, contrary to an old wives tale that has been circulating for decades. Numerous studies have been conducted and all have disproved this.

You may have noticed that we include the term "real local florist" on our website. We do this to insure that people know that European Flower Company is owned by and employs local residents, that we have a physical retail flower shop at 1284 Washington Street, that we are contributing to the local economy and tax base and that we will fill your order to full value. Through our business, we have made a major financial investment in Weymouth and will be here for many years to come. We guarantee our flowers for five days (although we frequently are told that they last much longer) and, if for any reason, you have an issue that needs to be resolved, we will resolve it promptly.

When ordering online, a florist listed as "local" may not be in the state, let alone the town you are searching for. These "order gatherers" frequently use bogus local addresses so that they will show up as a "local" on yahoo maps and other search engines. They will not be delivering your flowers themselves but will pass along or "wire" your order to a real local florist in your town but at nowhere near the price you paid for the order.

Most "order gathers" keep over 25% of the money you paid for the order, sending only 73% of the price paid to the local florist who is actually making and delivering your flowers. The local florist receives the order (at the discounted price) and will fill it to this value. Doesn't sound quite right, does it?

Most local florists have websites that allow for easy online ordering and all local florists are happy to take an order over the phone. When you order through a real local florist, your order will be filled to full value and your dollars will be kept in the community.

If you are not familiar with the name, always check to make sure that an online listing is a real local florist. Mapping the listing won't help as "order gatherers' use fraudulent local addresses to trick customers into thinking they are a local business. The easiest way to check on a florist's location is to call the listed phone number and verify the physical shop address by telling the person who answers the phone that you would like to "come in in person to pick something out".

Sacred Heart Church Fundraiser
Sacred Heart Church held a fundraiser at Lantana's on Saturday March 24. European Flower Company was happy to provide seven centerpieces for this important event. The church was totally gutted by a major fire in 2005 and work is progressing steadily on the new church. The new church which is scheduled to open in September.

Weymouth Schools Fundraiser
Friday March 30 was the Weymouth School's fundraiser, also at Lantana's. European Flower Company donated prizes and donated a floral arrangement for raffle.
